The OSA Foundation fellowship offers young professionals an opportunity to gain valuable on-the-job research experience in the field of optics and photonics and provides insights and inspiration into career paths that students often do not get in the classroom, said Scott Edwards, senior director of the OSA Foundation. We are happy to partner with Thorlabs to fund this program, and work with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to provide a unique learning environment for the young professional selected.
The inaugural Fellowship program pairs qualified early career professionals with a research opportunity with the Ultrafast Lasers, Advanced Imaging Systems or Novel Optoelectronic Devices program area within Thorlabs. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will manage the application process, which is open to recent post-doctoral graduates who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents or an eligible nonresident alien holding appropriate visas.
Thorlabs will review the applicants and make the final decision on the fellowship award. The successful applicant will receive a competitive stipend, health benefits, travel grant funding to enhance professional development and the opportunity to work with leaders in the optics industry on cutting-edge optics programs.
