EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio--Three more years of labor accord have been assured at The Hall China Company as it reached agreement on a new contract with employees, members of Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics & Allied Workers Union (GMP) Local 417. The deal impacts 90 workers and their families from East Liverpool, Ohio, and its surrounding communities. The Hall China Company operates its own pottery in Ohio, across the Ohio River from the West Virginia-headquartered Homer Laughlin China Company, of which Hall China is a part.
Union President Eric Gorrell and his team worked with Hall China parent company, HLC, Inc. on the labor contract, working diligently and truly pressing late into the night as the deadline for the expiring contract drew near. The new agreement was signed just past midnight on November 16.
Homer Laughlin President Elizabeth McIlvain said, “We are pleased to have reached a new labor agreement with our Hall China team—a contract that keeps manufacturing for Hall’s high-quality specialty dinnerware right here in East Liverpool where it has been a staple since 1903.”
McIlvain added, “Although healthcare prices have continued to rise, we were able to reach an agreement that suited both parties. This three-year contract demonstrates that both sides were committed to reaching a consensus.”
About The Hall China Company
The Hall China Company was founded in 1903 in East Liverpool, Ohio, by Robert Taggart Hall. By 1930, after three decades of rapid growth, the company’s three separate operations facilities were consolidated into the present plant location. Recently Hall China joined Homer Laughlin China under the HLC Inc. umbrella. Today, Homer Laughlin sets the table with its vast selection of dinnerware, and Hall completes the setting, with center-of-table accessories, serving ware, and freezer-to-oven-to-table cookware. By combining the companies’ design and manufacturing expertise, the two-plant collective produces products that are both lower in cost and superior in quality, while continuing to employ hundreds of Americans working at both operations.
