WILMINGTON, Mass.--Security Innovation, a cybersecurity provider and leader in the 2015 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Security Awareness Training, will be providing security expertise in a plenary talk and two panel discussions at Automated Vehicles Symposium 2016.
AUVSI and TRB are joining forces to bring you the Automated Vehicles Symposium 2016. This dynamic event will feature interactive breakout sessions, forums for networking and leading speakers discussing and debating these and other key questions facing the future of this industry.
Security Innovation’s Principal Scientist, Dr. Jonathan Petit will be delivering a plenary talk entitled “Cybersecurity Challenges for Automated Vehicles”. In this session Dr. Petit will propose a roadmap for automated vehicle cybersecurity. He will present potential vulnerabilities at both the sensor and sensor-fusion levels of design. In addition, he will present a classification of security threats according to their risk in order to propose a realistic “plan for action.” Dr. Petit will also describe recommended countermeasures to harden the automated vehicle ecosystem.
Dr. Petit will also be participating in breakout session #2, entitled “Law and Policy as Infrastructure.” In this session, panelists will be exploring the following topic areas:
- What U.S. states can and should do to prepare their regulatory and legal frameworks for automated vehicles, and NHTSA’s efforts to assist the states
- How international regulators react to NHTSA’s response to Google concerning the definition of “driver” in the context of autonomous vehicles
- How can security, privacy, and innovation be balanced in AV data use and ownership?
Dr. Petit and other industry experts from Chrysler Fiat, ARUP and Santa Clara University will focus their discussion around balancing security, privacy, and innovation in AV data usage.
Autonomous Vehicles will increasingly rely on data, raising questions about the use and protection of personally identifiable driver data. Data security and privacy have been described as two sides of the same coin. Commercial innovations like Waze and other navigation and “infotainment” applications rely on data; this panel will examine the inter-relationships between innovation, privacy, and cyber security.
In addition, Dr. Petit will also be participating in breakout session #5, entitled “Enabling Technologies.” In this session industry leaders will investigate what is under the hood, key enabling technologies and insight into a common set of vehicle-highway automation scenarios.
Vehicle automation has captured the hearts and minds of many, and the resulting prospect and promise of safety, mobility, convenience, comfort and a plethora of other potential benefits is indeed exciting. Just as exciting – and crucial to envisioned applications – are the enabling technologies that will literally and figuratively be under the hood.
Dr. Petit, along with Dr. Angelos Amditis, Research Director, Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) will be focusing their discussion around technologies for data ownership and privacy.
Prior to joining Security Innovation, Dr. Petit was a Research Fellow in the Computer Security Group at University College Cork, Ireland. He coordinated the European funded FP7 PRESERVE project and holds a PhD and M.Sc. degree from Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse, France.
