HOUSTON--Ranger Steel Services LP, the largest independent steel plate distributor in the United States, has continued its network expansion with the opening of a Midwest distribution center in Madison, Illinois. Part of the St. Louis Metropolitan Area, Madison is on the Mississippi River, minutes from downtown St. Louis.
Our primary consideration in opening a new distribution center was finding a place that would allow us to move steel closer to our customers in the Midwest, as fuel and shipping costs continue to climb
Ranger is leasing warehouse storage space from St. Louis Reload, Inc. at its Fox Industrial Drive location, which has convenient access to rail, barge and interstate highway transportation, and contracting all shipping and handling operations to the privately owned company. The new facility will stock two grades of domestic steel plate -- high strength, low alloy; and regular carbon plate -- supported by Ranger's vast inventory of about 45,000 tons of steel plate daily on average.
Our primary consideration in opening a new distribution center was finding a place that would allow us to move steel closer to our customers in the Midwest, as fuel and shipping costs continue to climb," said Ranger Steel President Ron Whitley. "We found that prime location near St. Louis in Madison with its transportation hub of interstate highways, intercontinental rail lines and the mighty Mississippi River. Maintaining a stock distribution center here will help us ship steel faster, more efficiently and cost-effectively. That's our longstanding commitment to our customers.
