GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., - Firstronic LLC has formed a strategic alliance with DASI Solutions, a leading provider of 3D printing equipment, software and services.
While 3-D printing capability has been around for decades as a solution for quick-turn prototyping and soft tooling, its relatively high price point was a barrier to full exploration of potential applications. As a broader range of equipment at varying price points entered the market, that changed and it is now becoming a disruptive technology with the potential to provide competitive advantage to companies who explore ways it can be used to cut lead-time or eliminate design constraints. Our alliance with DASI Solutions gives us access to their technical support labs, which have the widest range of 3D printing capability in Great Lakes Region. Our engineering team will be working with their additive manufacturing technology experts to develop applications which save our customers time and money, said John Sammut, Firstronic CEO.
Under the alliance, DASI Solutions will work with Firstronic exclusively for the next three years on developing a range of electronics manufacturing services (EMS) applications. In exchange, Firstronic will be working exclusively with DASI Solutions to develop applications related to the production requirements of its automotive customer base, and will introduce DASIs team to its customers product development teams, as appropriate. Firstronics engineering team will have full access to DASI Solutions Technical Support Labs and 3D printers, which range from complex industrial printers to smaller desktop models, and include both fused deposition modeling and polyjet capabilities.
It is an exciting time to be involved in additive manufacturing technology because the range of materials and applications is rapidly expanding. As an emerging destination for innovation, we work to match our customers with the right equipment and materials to support their needs. As an example, we recently helped one customer cut eight weeks of lead-time off of an engineering change implementation by printing the tooling they needed. We see the alliance with Firstronics engineering team as not only an opportunity to educate them on our technology, but also an opportunity for our experts to learn more about their processes and ways additive technology can be used to improve them. It is a pleasure to be able to work with an EMS provider that is as focused on cutting edge technology and innovation in Lean manufacturing processes as weve seen at Firstronic, said David Darbyshire, Co-owner, DASI Solutions.
As a contract manufacturer we would never be able to justify purchasing the extensive breadth of the 3D printing equipment line present in DASIs Technical Support Labs. The high end of their equipment line is typically only found at universities and Fortune 100 company R&D centers, so this gives us a significant advantage in offering customers an unmatched range of solutions. We are also pleased to be partnering with a company that has been named one of Michigans 50 Companies to Watch, added Sammut.
