DE-STA-CO has improved standard lead times for its manual, hydraulic and pneumatic workholding equipment by up to 50 percent or more, while at the same time increasing its on-time delivery rate to 97 percent. As a result, DE-STA-CO distributors can improve their inventory management and get products to customers more quickly.
The operations team at our Auburn Hills, Mich., manufacturing facility has done an amazing job in reducing lead times on nearly 450 active parts, including our most popular clamps, accessories and hydraulic clamping cylinders, says Tom Stimac, DE-STA-CO sales director, distribution North America. DE-STA-CO achieved its lead time improvements by making changes in three areas. It improved throughput at the Auburn Hills factory by holding more inventory to make it possible to assemble parts more quickly. At the same time, the company shortened lead times with its material suppliers so the plant gets the materials it needs more quickly. Finally, DE-STA-CO reduced the number of production line changeovers made each a day, reducing set-up time and improving productivity.
