The Air Race 1 World Cup is a class of air race known in air sports for generations as formula one air racing. It is based on a set of rules, or formula, that define how the aircraft are built. All airplanes are built to the same specification and raced by top aviators at speeds of up to 450kph just meters above the ground on a closed oval circuit around a set of pylons. It s not a time trial nor an aerobatic display it is a competitive motorsport where the first to cross the finish line wins. The Air Race 1 World Cup is sanctioned by the three formula air racing associations from the USA, France and the UK.
Jeff Zaltman, CEO of Air Race 1, said: Air racing fans have waited a long time for a true international air race series where pilots race directly against each other, as in most other forms of motorsport. A lot of work and effort was put into this series by hundreds of people and many prestigious organizations. We expect this exciting series to be a popular mainstream sport in the near future. We thank our host partners TAV Airports, Aeroports de Catalunya and the Reno Air Racing Association for being visionary in their support of air racing.
