Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. Will Expand Scottsville Operations

SCOTTSVILLE, KY-Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. (SEWS); Scottsville, Kentucky Electrical Components Plant will expand their operations by re-opening their previously shuttered first plant that began operations in 1988.

SEWS Scottsville, Building 2, located at 796 Smiths Grove Road, Scottsville, Ky., is currently undergoing a $3 million renovation for manufacturing electric wire terminals produced for automotive wiring harness applications for the SEWS North American and European customer base.

The plant is scheduled to reopen in October of 2012 with some new and existing machinery and manpower being moved from the current manufacturing location on Old Gallatin Road in Scottsville.

The re-opening is expected to add eight to 10 additional jobs over the next couple years and will allow for future expansion of both facilities.

SEWS General Manager of General Affairs Matt Adams stated that the decision to reinvest in the Scottsville facilities was due to many factors. Sales have increased for SEWS competitively priced, high quality product that has been produced by the SEWS Scottsville team of associates, and that product has been recognized as an industry leader by many of the automotive original equipment manufacturers. This recognition requires increased production capacity.

The Tennessee Valley Authority and Tri-County Electric are collaborating with SEWS to provide incentives for the project.

Sumitomo's Scottsville plant employs 170 associates with an annual payroll of $6.8 million, contributing to the overall support and growth of Allen and surrounding counties.
