Mining and steel company Severstal is laying off more than 900 workers in Ohio as it idles operations in Steubenville, Martin's Ferry and Yorkville. The layoffs have already started and will continue until June 10 when all of the facilities will be shut down, according to a notice filed with the state of Ohio.
Severstal has been working to secure new orders to replace the abrupt loss of work that had already been booked. Production is expected to restart when business picks up, the notice said.

Other companies laying off workers in Ohio include:
*Auto parts maker Colfor Manufacturing ' a division of American Axle & Manufacturing ' has started laying off almost 600 workers across three plants. The company says the layoffs could extend beyond six months for union workers while the move will be permanent for non-union workers. *Sencorp and its subsidiaries, including Senco Products and Global Fastening Solutions, will be shedding 300 workers as the company is purchased out of bankruptcy. In a letter to employees, Sencorp officials said the laid off workers "may or may not' be offered a job with the new owners.
*Johnson Controls will shutter its facility in Greenfield, Ohio and layoff 205 workers. The cuts have already started and are scheduled to continue until October.
*Faurecia Exhaust Systems in Troy, Ohio shut its doors May 8 and 168 employees have been permanently let go.
*Shiloh Industries will close its Liverpool manufacturing plant in July, affecting 111 workers.
